For people who chose a simpler phone

Your work messages. On any phone.

Flipsyd turns Slack and email into plain text messages. Reply by text, or call your number and hear your inbox read out loud.

  • Works on any phone that texts
  • No app, no data plan
  • Your team changes nothing

The urgent finds you

@-mentions and direct messages are texted to you the moment they land. Everything else stays put — your phone doesn't buzz for a #random thread.

The rest waits for you

Text *i when you're ready and get a numbered list of what's waiting. Or call the number and hear it read out loud, then drive it with the keypad.

You reply as yourself

Pick a thread, type, send. It posts back into Slack or email under your own account — your colleagues just see a message from you.

How it works

Watch one message make the round trip

This is the whole product: a phone sending and receiving plain texts. Alongside it is what your colleagues see — which never changes. Pick a tab to watch one app on its own.

Your phone — this is the whole app

@you can you review the PR by 3pm? It's the auth refactor — only the middleware changed.

What your colleagues see — nothing changes for them

Setting up

Three steps, once

Everything happens on this website, from a computer. Your phone never needs to do anything except send and receive texts.

  1. Verify your number

Enter your mobile number here and confirm the six-digit code we text you. That's your account.

    About 2 minutes
  2. Connect your apps

Sign in to Slack once, and forward work email to the private address we give you. Nothing to install.

    About 3 minutes
  3. Save the numbers

Each app gets its own Flipsyd number. Save them as contacts and your phone sorts everything into threads for you.

    One minute

The commands

Seven things to remember. That's all of it.

Every command starts with * so it can never be confused with a reply you meant to send.

*i
Show my inbox — a numbered list of waiting threads. *i 2 for the next page.
*1 – *8
Pick that thread. Whatever you type next is sent as your reply.
*1 your reply
Pick and reply in one text, so it costs a single message.
(plain text)
Anything you text that doesn't start with * is sent as a reply to your picked thread.
*d
Read out the full thread you've picked, not just the summary.
*m / *u
Mute or unmute the channel your picked thread is in.
*h
Help for wherever you are. *h all lists everything.

Prefer to call? The keypad is the same grammar — 1-8 pick a thread, star pages through the list or reads the full thread, hash mutes the channel. Hang up and text your reply.

Plans

Two plans. Cancel whenever.

Each plan is a monthly pot of credits. A message costs what it actually costs to carry, so you are not quietly paying for someone else's.

Basic

£4.99/month

For one app — Slack or email.

  • 3,700 credits a month — around 100 messages pushed to you in the UK, and further elsewhere
  • Every command, and calling in
Choose Basic

See what a credit buys — every action priced, and what happens when you run out. Message and data rates may apply. Text STOP at any time to cancel. Text HELP for help.

Questions

The things people ask first

Do I need a smartphone?
No. If your phone can send and receive text messages and make calls, it works. There is no app to install, nothing to log into on the phone, and no data plan required — that's the whole point.
Does my team need to do anything?
No. You connect your own Slack or email account once from this website. Your colleagues carry on using Slack and email exactly as they do now.
What do my colleagues see when I reply?
A normal message from you, in the thread you were already in. Replies post under your own account — there's no bot prefix and nothing that says it came from a text.
Won't my phone be buzzing constantly?
Only @-mentions and direct messages are pushed to you. Everything else queues silently until you text *i or call. You can mute a noisy channel with *m, and pause everything from your dashboard.
What is a credit?
One unit of what a message actually costs us to carry. Sending you a text costs more in some countries than others, so credits track the real cost instead of pretending every message is the same. A text to a UK phone is 35 credits, a US phone 7, a minute on a call 2. Your plan is a monthly pot of credits, and the dashboard shows what is left.
Why not just count texts?
Because a text to a UK number costs us about five times one to a US number, and calls and summaries cost something too. Counting texts meant some people quietly subsidised others. Credits mean you pay for what you actually use, and we can be straight with you about it.
Does it cost me anything to reply?
Your own phone plan charges for the text you send, exactly as it would for any other text — that part has nothing to do with us. On the Flipsyd side, taking your reply and acting on it draws 8 credits, about a quarter of what one message to a UK phone costs. A month of ordinary back-and-forth is a small slice of your allowance.
Does calling in use credits?
Yes — 2 credits a minute, which is the cheapest thing on the list. Ten minutes of listening to your inbox is 20 credits out of a monthly pot in the thousands. There is no separate charge for calling: it comes out of the same allowance as everything else.
What happens if I run out of credits?
Nothing breaks and nothing is lost. We text you at 80% so it is never a surprise, then pause sending until your month renews — messages keep queueing, and you can still text or call in to read them. If you would rather not pause, you can opt in at signup to keep going at a small per-credit rate.
What happens to my message content?
Messages are scanned for secrets — API keys, tokens and the like are stripped before anything is stored, summarised or sent to your phone. We never log message bodies.

Keep the simple phone. Keep your job.

Set up in about five minutes from this computer. Your phone only ever has to do one thing: send and receive text messages.
